"We pull up to the Warehouse in the crazed truck and - well, for a start, I begin to see that people like Lois and Stewart and Black Maria are the restrained, reflective wing of the Merry Pranksters. The Warehouse is on Harriet Street, between Howard and Folsom. Like most of San Francisco, Harriet Street is a lot of wooden buildings with bay windows all painted white. But Harriet Street is in San Francisco's Skid Row area, and despite all the paint, it looks like about forty winos crawled off in the shadows and died and turned black and bloated and exploded, sending forth a str--."
With an irritated sigh, Carly slammed the paperback book shut. She wasn't in the mood for Tom Wolfe's imagery about the LSD taking hippies who followed Ken Kesey around in an old school bus called Furthur. The psychobabble was not appealing to her mind right now, it was taking too much effort to unravel the twists and turns of the author's words; she was too tired to find understanding in the text. Dropping the book onto the table beside her, Carly adjusted her position in the chaise, stretching her legs out in front of her. The sun was shining bright, it was the perfect day to lie around relaxing and tanning her already bronze skin.
Carefully, trying not to disturb the knot she'd tied her hair into on the top of her head, Carly pulled her sunglasses off her head, placing them gently over her eyes. Instantly, the sun dimmed and a soft smile appeared on Carly's features. Every move she made was making her more and more comfortable. As much as Carly complained about how bored she got on the ship, it was much more favorable than staying in New York all summer. Tanning in New York wasn't the same, especially if you had to sit on a sticky roof top that smelled of tar. There really was nothing fun about that. Plus, the scenery was much better.
And then there was the shirtless boys that wandered so nicely around her. She definitely wouldn't have gotten any of that in New York, and that would have been a crying shame. Her smile widening, Carly reached for the bottle of water beside her. Unscrewing the cap, she tilted the bottle into her mouth taking a long drink. This was the perfect way to spend the afternoon... all she needed now was some music to block out the noise of the pool...
[ooc|| The top paragraph is from a novel called The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe.]

if the heart is always searching, can you ever find a home?
--------------------------------------------------------
Hunter threw his white nuts over his shoulder, if he was headed to the pool what was the point of even putting it on? He walked with a bit of confidence but none of these people knew what was really going through Hunter's mind. They thought, just like every other teen here, he was here to get drunk and party hard for summer. But no, he was here to have one last summer with no military stuff shoved down in throat. He swallowed hard, almost unable to. Every since Michael died, Hunter hadn't been able to think about anything that had to do with the military, not even Benjamen and Daniel. Which was pretty bad considering they were also his older brothers. No one really knew what exactly happened to Michael except that he was one of the American soldiers kidnapped. He even choked up thinking about his brother, he never cried. Ever. But Hunter cried for him.
He shook his head as the sun tickled his tan skin. He sighed, it was time to just put a smile on and forget this whole thing ever happened. He bit on his lip, he didn't know if he should just go back to the cabin or not. The only good thing about this cruise was it was on lockdown and no one could leave. Just another reason to get the hell away from his father. Hunter shrugged, looking at the lifegaurd, who was of course as always, flirting with all of the teens laying on chairs near the lifegaurd stand. He rolled his eyes, it would really suck to be drowning right now because he was so not paying attention. 'I'd hate to be that person right now.' Hunter thought with a sarcastic twist. Hunter heard some people calling his name, he turned and nodded at them when they asked if he wanted to play some basketball with them. Well, he hated it so of course he said, "Nah, I'm cool." and continued on.
He decided he'd just go sit down somewhere, maybe find someone interesting to talk to, you know to pass the time. He spotted a pretty girl sitting alone, well her and Hunter really seemed to be the only ones alone. Besides, no girl was ever interested in Hunter any more than just a friend because of his sarcastic humor. He figured she could be one of those friends he could just come sit and talk to at the pool, you know all that good stuff. He gave her a smile as he walked around her, and went around the the other side. She seemed to ressemble one of those Disney Channel stars, he couldn't remember her name but let's face it, telling someone they "look like that girl from that one movie" isn't a very well thought out conversation starter. "Nice shades." Hunter complimented her, that was always the best way to start a conversation with someone new.

Her mind was wandering, the heat was making it for her to focus on something in particular. Carly cleared her throat, screwing the cap back onto her water bottle and setting it on top the book. Her eyes wandered, taking in all the sights of the pool again. The attractive life guard who never seemed to be doing his job; the preteen girls who banded together, giggling and watching said life guard, and the girls he flirted with. Just a typical day at the pool. She smiled in spite of myself, pushing a stray of wandering hair from out of her eyes.
Nice shades.
Carly was pulled out of her mind at the sound of the voice. Slightly confused, she glanced up at the boy, her sunglasses hiding the curiosity in her eyes. "Thanks," She said quietly, her eyes discreetly checking him out. He was a cute one, that was for sure. "Nice... abs?" The girl supplied lamely, her eyebrows furrowing together at her stupidity. Very smooth, very smooth. Well, it wasn't all her fault that he wasn't wearing fantastic sunglasses like her, was it?
She propped herself up on her elbows, pulling her sunglasses off her eyes and placing them back on the top of her head. Automatically, she squinted, shielding her eyes from the sun as she turned to look at the boy. "I'm Carly," She said with a small smile. "Mcelroy, of the New York Mcelroys." She made the same pained expression as she had early. Why the hell was she being so lame today? It was if the heat had melted her mind, making her unable to keep her cool. Conversations were usually much easier for Carly to get going.
[ooc|| Gah, sorry it's short. My brain kind of melted as well. D; ]
