are they good at their job? how?, Altair is quite the good DJ. She's not musically talented in the sense of playing an instrument, but she can sing decently, and she definitely has a skill for manipulating beats. She knows exactly how to get the crowd pumped up and excited, and she's pretty good at figuring out what the audience wants to hear. Of course she messes up sometimes, but not often, and she's forgiven easily. She only took this job as a summer thing, but she's really warmed up to it, and the club goers seem to like her. It's gotten to the point that when she's not on shift random people will come up to her and strike up a conversation with her [or ask her to dance, in some guys' cases] because they were impressed by her DJing skills. And Altair loves every bit of it.
cabin, Altair’s cabin is, well, messy is a bit of an understatement. Clothes, books, headphones, papers, shoes, sheets, anything and everything you could think of is strewn across every available flat surface in her room. Oh, and did I mention that it’s a rather tiny room? Still, though others are overwhelmed by the chaos ninety-nine percent of the time, Altair isn’t bothered by it. Quite on the contrary really: she thrives in the disorganization. But she has made room for a couple very important items. The first is her iPod speakers, which she is very proud of, and keeps spotless. And that’s where you can find her iPod when she isn’t carrying it around, which is a rare sight. The second is her laptop. She pretty much can’t survive without it, and so the crap covering her desk has been shoved to the side to make room for it. And the last item that you’ll be able to make out when first viewing her room is her little stuffed dog, which she faithfully places in the center of her pillow every morning. Really, her room quite fits her personality: it’s tangled and messy and confusing, but underneath it all, it makes sense.

appearance, What do you think of when you hear the word scene, emo, or punk? If you're educated on labels and styles, then you think of totally different things. But, if you're not, then you'd probably think of quiet, dark, sensitive people who wear skinny jeans and lots of eyeliner. Well that mostly fits the 'emo' label, so what about scene and punk? People who fall under that label are usually more loud, obnoxious, outgoing, and fun, in a sense. Usually they're crazy about music - at least certain types -, and like to have a good time [yes it usually involves alcohol, drugs, and the opposite sex]. In looks, Altair is a pretty even mix of all three, with buckets of uniqueness thrown in. Over the years she's amassed an impressive collection of clothes, many of which could definitely be considered one of those labels. She has nearly a closet of jeans alone, ranging from black cigarette legs to off white bell bottoms. She loves all of them, since jeans are pretty much her passion. Of course, that's not all she owns. She also has skirts, shorts, capris, and those are just the bottoms. As for tops, she has a massive amount of different t-shirts, sweatshirts, tank tops, long sleeves, short sleeves, halters, dresses, and many more. Her favorite tops to wear though are either tight fitting band shirts, or layers. And her shoes. d**n her shoes. She has countless pairs, even though she almost always wears one of her vans or converses. Add in lots of conventional and unconventional jewelry pieces, a fondness for experimenting with makeup and hairstyles, and you have Altair's style. It's hard to understand unless you know her, but just remember that she ranges all over the map, except for the preppy side.
Now on to her physical appearance. Let's start with her face. Altair has interesting features: her bone structure can make her look Asian at times, even though she doesn't have a drop of Asian blood in her. But let's go from the top down. Altair's hair is a natural white blond, and she's very proud of it. She hardly ever dyes it, but she has been known to streak it various colors. Nothing permanent though, she's too vain of it for that. However, the length and style does vary quite a lot. Usually it falls just above her breasts in straight, choppy layers, but not all the time. She could wake up and decide to curl it, frizz it out, chop off half of it, or something like that. It grows fast and thick though, so she doesn't worry about it too much. Moving down to her eyes, you'll first notice the way her eyebrows arch over them. They give her the perfect sarcastic, dry, 'Are you kidding?' look 24/7, and she loves it. You would next notice their color: a deep, dazzling blue. And unless she's feeling really off, they'll be circled with eyeliner, though the color of that varies. Actually, her eye color tends to change fairly often, thanks to the tinted contacts she loves. Still, that's only for things like parties or when she wants them to match an outfit she's wearing. Either way, besides her hair, they grab the most attention when you first meet her, since they seem to pull you in. Next would be her nose and mouth. But they're not too special, there's nothing amazingly great or bad about them, so she doesn't think about them too much. However, you might if you see her when she's wearing one of her, um, unique colors of lipstick. But anyways, that's her face, in all of its glory.
Still moving downwards, next you reach Altair's body. She's a fairly average height, standing at about five feet six. Some people have called her short, but she doesn't care. No she's not the tallest person around, big deal. It's never bothered her, especially since she can almost always beat up those people that make fun of her. That brings us to another point: her build. Altair is quite muscular, thanks to her lifestyle and her drive. They don't show like guys' do, but you can definitely tell that she has them, even when she's not flexing. And they're even more evident because of how little fat she has on her. Still, though she's strong, her frame doesn't make her look like she would be. She's relatively small boned, and slim even with the muscle. That's one thing she's glad of though, at least that way she never had to worry about being fat. But with a thin frame comes some disadvantages, and in Altair's mind those would be that she has a B chest [though the biggest B you can get] and a small butt. That's only her though, all of her friends reassure her that it doesn't take away from her looks, what it does is save her from looking trashy. Another thing you'd probably notice about Altair is her skin tone. She doesn't burn, but she doesn't really tan either, so she's almost permanently stuck in between with fair skin. She doesn't have freckles though, something that she's very thankful for. Sometimes she wishes she had a darker tan, but usually it doesn't bug her, since the color goes well with her hair. And that's all of Altair, described fairly accurately. She's a bit above average, but not drop dead gorgeous. But, having the low self esteem that she does, Altair hardly ever likes how she looks, no matter how many of her friends tell her she's beautiful.

personality, Like most, Altair’s inner workings are a tangled web of contradicting elements. Okay, so, that’s a lie. Hers isn’t exactly similar to most peoples’, really, she’s very different from almost everyone she knows. The majority of people have distinct aspects of their personality that clearly shine through, along with more hidden, complex parts that are all intertwined. Altair is more complicated than that. She doesn’t have more than one or two traits that you can easily distinguish, all the rest are a mess of knots and snarls, and they’re all interdependent on each other. For example, she wouldn’t be as outgoing as she is without a cripplingly shy part of her, no matter how strange that sounds. As you can see, explaining her personality is a tough job, but I’ll do my best. Let’s start from the top.
If you wanted to oversimplify things to an extreme, you could say that Altair has layers, much like an onion. Of course, an onion’s layers aren’t all tied together in a knot, so it’s not the best comparison, but it helps some people. If you’re going by that metaphor, her first layer would be her wildness. Strangers and friends see her the same on this part: she has no inhibitions. Whatever it is, she’ll do it without hesitation. She’s that girl you see dancing on the tables when she’s stone sober, or the one who’ll go up to a guy and have him eating out of the palm of her hand after two minutes, or even the one who’ll do something totally illegal and then stay around to argue with the cops. This is tied together with her need for adventure and thrills. She’s always up for everything, no matter how dangerous or stupid it is. That’s just who she is, and she enjoys the heck out of it. Of course, this crosses over to her extroverted nature. She’s a people person: she loves making friends, talking, laughing, joking, and all of that. And thanks to her lack of inhibitions, she can talk to anyone and everyone without a worry. Most people love her for that, but not everyone. Her loudness can get her classified as obnoxious, and some just resent her ease with everything social. What’s her reaction to that? ‘Don’t be jealous.’ And that brings us to her uncaring side.
In total honesty, Altair doesn’t give a crap about what people think of her. She’s gotten over that stupidity. She knows that not everyone will like her, and she’s fine with that. And why should she care? She has amazing friends, and she likes her life and herself, no one else can take that away from her. The chain continues with her aloofness. Despite her outgoing nature, Altair can be quite closed when she wants to be. If she’s in a bad mood, or just doesn’t feel like talking, she shuts down. When she’s like that, no one can reach her. It might seem weird, and it is. Sometimes she just has random mood swings that throw her totally off. Actually, that’s another thing you need to know about her. She’s prone to having unpredictable mood swings, and usually they’re for no reason at all. Sometimes if it’s obvious then you can figure out why she suddenly went from ecstatic to depressed, but that only happens rarely. So on the whole, be aware that the happy-go-lucky girl you see can turn into a clawing, spitting pregnant dog in a matter of seconds. And when that does happen, she doesn’t care who she hurts, she just wants to get rid of her pain, and that usually means giving it to someone else. And then we come to another part of her personality.
Everyone can be cruel when they want to, even the nicest, sweetest people ever. No matter how much they hide it, everyone has a mean side, some people just choose not to succumb to it. Altair is sort of in between with that. She’s not unnecessarily mean, but she won’t stop herself from lashing out when it’s warranted. Of course, when she’s in one of her bad swings, she doesn’t always wait for someone else to start it, she’s quite comfortable with picking fights. See, although she’s usually a nice person, Altair can be amazingly cold and pregnant dogy when she wants to be. Her friendly, joking mood can easily switch to a catty, mocking one, and she fights with words and hands. Obviously it depends on the situation, but she usually manages to throw in a couple good jabs, even if they’re in between punches. She definitely prefers to best her opponents verbally, but she enjoys the brawls when they come her way. To sum it up, she’s a spitfire. She has her nice side, and her mean one, and she doesn’t hesitate to switch back and forth. But we haven’t quite finished, you have yet to understand several more aspects of her personality. And even when we wrap those things up, we’ll have only scratched the surface of all that is Altair. I warned you though: she’s one of the more confusing and complex individuals out there.
On to her sense of humor. Hers is a rather mixed batch. You have the dry part, for when she’s feeling calm; the perverted part, which she uses whenever she wants, although it does come out more when she’s partying; the sarcastic part, again, she uses this all the time; and the morbid part, this one comes out only rarely. They’re not evenly blended together either, the most dominant part would be her sarcastic humor, then the perverted part, then the dry part, and then the morbid part. Of course she does have a regular sense of humor, for normal jokes, but most people don’t notice that right away. The parts named come out much more clearly, and so they’re noticed first. Excepting her morbid humor, her jokes are usually easy to understand, and her general sense of humor isn’t that confusing. But that’s mostly because hardly anyone sees the more confusing part. Her morbid sense of humor is usually kept strictly under locks, because Altair knows it freaks people out, and she doesn’t want to attract that sort of attention. Also, she doesn’t like that part of her, and she sometimes scares herself when it gets really bad. This dark sense of humor ties in with a small, sadistic element of her personality. As much as she denies it and refuses to talk about it, Altair secretly [sometimes] enjoys pain and watching others feel pain. There's no other way to put it, but it sounds worse than it is. She doesn't go out of her way to hurt people, whether emotionally or physically, it's just that when someone is hurt, in the back of her mind she's laughing, if not out loud. And as for enjoying her own pain, it's more of a masochistic thing than something like cutting. She doesn't do that, but she does take pleasure in pushing herself to and past her limits, no matter what it is. But I will go no farther on it, because how can I hope to explain it any better when Altair herself is still trying to figure it out?
And we’re on to even more. As you could probably guess – if you were paying attention – Altair has an unquestionably independent spirit. That positive trait can get in the way though, like when she can’t figure something out or if something is impossible for her to do alone. No matter how ridiculous it is, she won’t accept help from anyone. Because added on to her independence is her pride. She’s one of those people that have huge problems with apologizing because of how prideful they are. That sometimes labels her as insensitive, which, surprisingly, she isn’t. She sympathizes easily with people, it’s just whether she chooses to show that or not that matters. Because she can feel extraordinary pain for someone and still be mean to them. But, I’m not going to lie, she doesn’t always understand the other person’s feelings, usually she does though.
Yet another thing you have to understand about Altair is her intelligence. It doesn’t work in the same way as most people. Put simply, that means she has extreme street, common, and people sense, but her book smarts are definitely lacking. As a human, she was no honor role student, and that sort of bugged her. This crosses over to her competitiveness, as she hates to lose, and she won’t stop fighting ever. So seeing others consistently beat her was frustrating, and she always tried her hardest to improve. Still, it just wasn’t her forte, and the best she managed was all C’s and one B. That contrasts sharply with the rest of her intelligence. Because in real life – meaning outside of school – Altair is one of the smartest people you could ever meet. Her troubles made her sharp and alert, and she always learned from her mistakes. Her mind just doesn’t work the same way as a lot of other people, and that’s okay. So far, it’s served her just fine.
On to her stubbornness. Altair is basically a mule. When she makes up her mind about something, she sticks with it even if it’s completely obvious that she’s wrong. She just hates to admit that she was wrong, which goes back to her pride. She feels that she has to be right all the time [or is right], and anything opposing that sets her temper off. About her temper. Altair has a very short one on her, and it’s set off easily. If you keep doing something when she tells you to stop, she’ll most likely blow up, or at the least get pretty ticked. It doesn’t matter if it’s totally idiotic, if it bugs her, it bugs her, and you’d best not do it. Because when she’s angry, she’s really angry. She’s one of those people who have trouble controlling themselves normally – in all aspects – so it’s much harder when she’s mad. Whatever it is at first, it usually escalates into something much bigger than it should be, and many times she resorts to her fists to ‘solve’ it. Of course that only happens when she’s too enraged to fight with words, but that happens pretty quickly when she’s pissed. See, her tear ducts are apparently wired to her temper. So when she’s really angry and wants to tell you off, she generally can’t because she starts crying. She absolutely hates it, but no matter how hard she tries she can’t find a way around it. And it’s weird, because she cries more when she’s mad than when she’s sad. She hates that too, but so far she hasn’t been able to do anything about it.
And that is probably the best description of Altair that you’ll ever find. Her biggest traits are explained in full, but still, it only touches on all of her quirks. To understand her better you’ll have to spend time with her, lots and lots of time. Because although she’s open, that only goes so far. Meeting her, you wouldn’t expect the depth of her personality at all. Really, you’d probably just think she was another wild partier, and that’s it. But that’s so wrong, as her close friends know. So take your time getting to know her, it’ll be worth it. Still, don’t expect for it to be easy, because she’ll constantly surprise you and keep you on your toes. And even her closest friends don’t know everything about her, but some are getting close. Just a piece of parting advice: strap yourself in, because it’s going to be a wild ride.
