are they good at their job? how?, Truth be told, Briar really isn't all that good at her job. It's not that she's lazy or doesn't work well, she's just prone to accidents. She usually ends up spilling the drinks she carries all over herself, bumping into patrons and other objects. It's a good night if she only spills a few drinks. It's not entirely her fault, though - Great White is a busy place, fulling flying arms and elbows. It's a job, though, and it's paying pretty well, so Briar is trying to do her best and not complain. It's hard though, when you leave work with your close stained, smelling something awful.
cabin, Personal touches are everywhere in Briar-Rose's cabin, from the collage of pictures of both friends from home and the ship on one wall, then the arrangement of stuffed animals, shaped pillows and character blankets that she adores so much. CDs are stacked on virtually every surface, all neatly organized. That's basically the only clutter in Briar's cabin - everything else is put away neatly, everything has it's own place.

history,
When Briar-Rose was delivered into the world over nineteen year ago, Lynette Sprigg was convinced that the little girl would be her blessing. Throughout her young pregnancy, Lynette was quite pleased about the ways Briar affected her - she went through a short stage of morning sickness and some discomfort as her due date neared, due to some shifting and kicking. However, when Lynette's water broke, it was more than two months premature. Panic struck then, and Lynette was rushed to the hospital. Hours passed, and the infant still hadn't pushed her way out. The doctor's feared for Lynette's health - the prolonged labour wasn't healthy for her. They decided that a cesarian section would be the only way to keep both the baby and Lynette well. When Briar finally made her debut into the world, she was too small and suffering complications - she'd taken her first breath too early. Immediately, she was put into an incubator.
The whole ordeal was tough on Lynette and Jeffrey, their first born was suffering, placed in an incubator, and they couldn't do a thing. They weren't even allowed to hold her. This was where her name came into play - Lynette wanted something airy and light, something that the infant would be able to carry, something to lift her up and keep her going: a fairy tale name. So Briar-Rose was given her name. Almost two months later, about a week before Christmas, Lynette and Jeffrey were finally allowed to take Briar-Rose home. She was healthy, save for the asthma she'd have to deal with for the rest of her life.
The next couple of years blurred by with little interest. Briar learned to crawl, then walk. Laugh, then talk. She moved on to "big girl" foods and potty training, and even got a little brother when she was four. At the age of ten, the family of four moved from their native San Francisco to a sleepy town in South Carolina. That was when Briar started having a lot of trouble with her parents. For one, she was furious that she was pulled away from her friends, her city, her state. She hated the small time life she was thrown into, she hated South Carolina, she hated her school, she hated the people there. She hated everything about it. Her bad attitude didn't help things, everybody in town was put off by her surly attitude. She didn't make friends, and when she finally made the effort, after a couple of years of pouting for her old friends, they weren't really the best people to associate with. They were the rebels of her small town. Things only went down hill with her mother from there.
Briar started ignoring curfew, skipping school and drinking - it drove her mother up the wall watching her baby girl go from this good little girl to a different version of herself. The trouble wasn't all there, though. Most of it came when Briar-Rose let someone get inside her head, shattering her self confidence. One girl's catty comments affected Briar deeply, and soon she her weight dropped to an unhealthy amount. Soon, she was hospitalized after collapsing in gym class. At age sixteen, Briar-Rose was discovered to have an eating disorder - both bulimic and anorexic. The inside of her throat was all messed up, the tissue was damaged after pushing so many meals up her throat. Briar was in the hospital for little under a month, being forced fed a substance that brought her weight back up to a healthy amount. On top of that, she was being shuttled from one therapy session to another.
Lynette started hovering over Briar after that, treating her like a child again as she cut up all her meals for her, set out clothing and drove and picked her up from school. Her social life was vetoed, her mother didn't want her relapsing and purging. Tension began to build around the Sprigg house. By her seventeenth birthday, Briar-Rose was sick of life in her parent's house. She petitioned the court and got herself legally emancipated from her parents. She moved out, got a crappy apartment and a crappy job and Briar was the happiest she'd been in a long time.
Now, after graduating high school, Briar's working here, on the ship to raise money so she can go to college next year. You know, after taking a standard year off to "find herself". Which, for her means, get the money together so she can actually pay for herself to go to school.

appearance,
Briar-Rose is one of those girls how could easily fall into the "scene" category. With her long dark hair, wardrobe full of skinny jeans and leggings and her piercings and tattoos, its easy to say that Briar has bought into the whole scene trend, and Briar will be the first to admit it. She won't argue that she's trying to be original with the way she dresses or inks herself, she knows she's buying into it. The girl adores the style as well, splurging the little spending money she does have after paying bills and rent, on getting new clothes, vintage or not. Shopping for Briar is a guilty pleasure, something she dabbles in a little too much. Her closet is filled to the brim with skinny jeans, torn leggings, tutus and other such items.
Her dark brown hair falls down to her shoulders in corkscrew layers, a trademark bang sweeping across her face. Naturally curly, Briar is one of the few that actually keep it that way. She's delighted to say that her hair is very low maintenance - she wakes up, showers, blow-dries and brushes and then she's rearing to go. Well, except for having to straighten her bang out, otherwise it's pretty much sticking straight up. Her eyes, however, are a different story. Though they're a beautiful smoky blue colour, Briar still has to put a lot of work into them. She was cursed at birth with short eyelashes, which she claims makes her look like a boy. As a result, she spends a good ten minutes working on lengthening the appearance of her eyelashes. Plus, on top of that, there's the eyeliner and shadow - Briar-Rose is a fan of experimenting with colours, so her eyes never look the same.
Standing at 5'2", Briar is a very petite little one. Short and thin, the kind of thing everyone wants to be - sort of. The thin part, anyway. Putting aside her healed (sort of) eating disorder, Briar-Rose has always been a tiny one. You could probably thank her pre-mature birth for that. Her short stature doesn't inhibit her in anyway, either. She's a fierce one for being so small; a firecracker of epic proportions. Plus, it just ups her adorable-ness by a lot for having difficulties reaching things and stuff like that.
And then there are her tattoos - and she's acquired quite a few of them. The first one she ever got was a small little pink heart outlined in black on her pinky finger of her left hand - it was a match to the one her best friend got at the same time. After that, the ink just kept coming. She has a bow tattooed just above her left hip, and a small diamond on her left ankle. Next was a small star on the side of her wrist on the same hand as her heart. On the opposite wrist, right across the flesh, is the word 'karma.' At the same time, she got a tattoo on her left foot of the word 'fate.' Briar's newest tattoo is one she got to celebrate her getting a job on the cruise ship - a colourful cupcake underneath her karma one. They're small, but there's quite a few of them. But, even with all her tattoos, plus her monroe and nose piercing, Briar-Rose still looks like a cute little innocent girl.

personality,
Wild, uninhibited, spunky. They're all words that could easily describe Briar-Rose. Whether they could describe all of Briar-Rose accurately is another story. Like everyone else, Briar is a puzzle you have to put together. Around the edges, she's a rough 'n tumble girl who doesn't let anyone get in her way. Delving further in you start to get fuzzier, a bit of a party girl with too much time on her hands and not enough activities to keep her occupied. As you get towards the finish, the picture is clear - she's a sweet girl with dreams just like everyone else. The only problem is getting close enough to finish the picture. And believe me, getting close to Briar is no easy feat. Unlike a lot of people, she doesn't open up to people easily. Trust issues are a major thing with the eighteen year old, and convincing her that you deserve her trust is something that will probably take a lot of work. Until then, cold and b!tchy are Briar's default setting.
That isn't to say that Briar is a total b!tch. She's not going to ignore you if you try to talk to her, of if you're trying to get to know her. She'll answer when she's asked a direct question, mumble a sarcastic remark under her breath when she feels the need and will always crack a joke when she feels up to it. It just takes time to get to the point of carrying on a conversation with Briar. Time most people won't put in. That's fine by Briar, it just means they're not worth her time. The clincher: if you're drunk with Briar, she'll be talking her head off. That's basically the only moment in time where Briar will be completely honest with someone else - when she doesn't have enough sense to shut the hell up. That's how most people get the urge to put the effort into getting to know the girl. She's a thinker, a brooder. When she voices her opinions it's almost surprising at the intensity of which she feels. It is kind of shocking when she speaks up.
Because of her quiet nature, most people tend to think she's shy. Really, I promise you, Briar is not the least bit shy. Her soul is brash when it wants to be, her thoughts loud and bouncing around her head. But, from her years of silently brooding, Briar has gotten out of the habit of speaking out such thoughts, so she keeps them to herself for the most part. It's a trust thing again, if you're important enough to know all her innermost workings, you'll hear her opinions. First impressions are a big deal to Briar, as well. It's kind of a make or break it kind of thing. If you totally bomb your first impression with her, you're pretty much shot. It takes a lot for Briar-Rose to change her mind - she's a stubborn girl and when she makes up her mind about something, it usually stays that way.
Some would say that Briar's a bitter person, holding onto some long past even that makes her so finicky. They're probably right, like I said, Briar is stubborn, it takes a lot for her to forgive and forget. Especially if her pride is damaged, like it usually is in most cases. She has a problem with her self esteem sometimes: the smallest comments get to her and soon the nugget of self doubt swells to an unimaginable size. Despite outwardly appearances, Briar-Rose is vulnerable. In fact, most outwardly things about her are completely opposite with Briar. Deep down, she's just a sweet girl, trying to find someone who understands her. Not unlike anybody else in the world.
